Can We Help You?

Treatments Available

It takes more time, and more expertise, to treat your body as a whole. But that’s what we do.

You will receive a thorough evaluation of your current condition, and be treated using a combination of therapies custom tailored to how your body responds. We have expertise with a wide array of both Eastern and Western techniques.

Our goal is to look carefully at the big picture, then work toward making the big picture ever smaller, until you are dealing with issues that can be resolved more easily. Most people who come to us with pain issues find that they no longer “hurt all over” after several treatments of physical therapy. Their issues become smaller and more localized.

From that point, it becomes easier to eliminate the pain and related physical issues.

And by the way, our treatments are used with excellent effectiveness on people who don’t think of themselves as “pain patients,” but mainly want to improve physical performance. See related section, “Performance Enhancement” for details.

It might seem counter-intuitive, but when we evaluate and treat you as a whole, not only can we be more effective, but the process gets to the heart of the matter faster than treating you in pieces. As insurers shift more of the cost of care to you, it's more important than ever to improve your condition as quickly as possible.

HOLISTIC PHYSICAL THERAPY

Let’s start here. We offer an integrated approach that incorporates both Eastern (alternative methods such as electrical stimulation of acupoints) and Western philosophies and techniques. Working this way produces profound healing and improvement.

PRIMAL REFLEX RELEASE TECHNIQUE (PRRT)

PRRT, developed by California physical therapist John Iams, is a new gentle, non-invasive technique being used with great success.

  • How does PRRT work?

In much the same way physicians test reflexes to see if the nerves are carrying messages to the body, PRRT uses light tapping to pinpoint and treat the source of pain. The treatment is gentle and doesn't hurt, usually producing more rapid results.

  • What kinds of problems can PRRT help?

PRRT has helped people with shoulder impingement, low back pain, osteoarthritis pain, trigger points, fibromyalgia, headaches, migraines, myofascial pain, overuse syndromes, spasms, repetitive strain injuries, pulled, torn or tight muscles, sciatica, TMJ, plantar fasciitis, and tunnel syndromes, to name just a few.

MICROCURRENT POINT STIMULATION (MPS) (FORMERLY ETPS)

MPS is a hybrid treatment that combines the principles of acupuncture and neurology with electrical stimulation. MPS applies concentrated DC micro stimulation to produce an 'acupuncture' response that 'releases' muscle tissue that had been impinging nerves and causing pain. In fact, the MPS procedure is nearly identical to acupuncture, with one exception: no needles!

Yes, MPS is non-invasive. In addition, MPS, because it is electrical stimulation - an accepted physical therapy treatment - is typically covered by insurance. Reimbursement for traditional acupuncture, on the other hand, may be limited.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

Myofascial Release is a term often used to describe soft tissue therapy for the treatment of skeletal muscle pain and dysfunction. At FYZICAL Therapy & Balance Centers, we refer to treatment of trigger points with this same term, Myofascial Release.

PILATES REFORMER (MEDICAL PILATES)

'Reformer' exercise is designed to develop controlled movement that allows the therapist and patient to focus on the quality of movement and movement patterns, while emphasizing the concepts of core strength, breathing, neutral spine, and centering. Use of the Reformer during exercise allows the physical therapist to easily modify/adjust for the patient's fitness ability or physical dysfunction, by fine-tuning the use of springs and adjusting body position.

JOINT MOBILIZATION

A hands-on technique to restore joint mobility.

CORE STABILIZATION

Exercises designed to stabilize the core muscle groups.

MUSCLE ENERGY TECHNIQUES

A series of techniques that use applied resistance to muscles, in order to restore joint alignment.

POSTURAL RESTORATION (PRI)

A new biomechanical approach for treating recurring painful conditions in multiple areas.

ASSOCIATIVE AWARENESS TECHNIQUE (AAT)

A 6-step process designed to change conditioned negative associations, by creating new positive sensory and cognitive awareness, thereby restoring a healthy homeostasis to the mind and body.

This testimonial below was written about AAT by Dr. Kathy Platoni, Clinical Psychologist.

April 24, 2013

(Therapist), PT has been treating me with Reflexercise and the Associative Awareness Technique for approximately 5 months now and I want to rave about this form of treatment. It has been extraordinarily beneficial in every conceivable way.

I am a survivor of the Fort hood massacre and 34 years of military service, both active duty and Army Reserve, in addition to 4 deployments in time of war. AAT has made a significant difference in my life. I live with an undercurrent of anxiety that has now departed because of these techniques. I am trying very hard to convince some of my trauma patients, as) do specialize in the treatment of PTSD, to arrange to treat with (therapist) PT as the benefits have been unlimited and the potential for healing, infinite.

Thank you profusely for what you have taught (therapist). She has labored intensively to bring AAT and Reflexercise to the Dayton VAMC. It is my sincere hope that there are listening ears in the wings and that there is an avenue for these interventions to take hold in the VA medical system for the many thousands of returning forces that stand to reap tremendous benefits from these very powerful techniques. Of equal importance is the fact that they have no side effects and cannot be overprescribed in lethal amounts.

Thank you again for such enormous relief and recovery.
